In which Deyndor QQs.
So I had two other posts that I planned on making this week, but one I haven’t started and the other I need to finish. This however takes precedence. Reading the patch notes today (thanks Amber for the google doc of them for those of us with mean IT people) and I noticed something:
World Event Bosses
The previous summoning criteria for these bosses have been removed. Players can queue up for and fight each World Event boss as many times as they want for any standard loot that they may drop.
All rare holiday items (such as The Horseman’s Reins) will have a chance of being found in holiday-themed loot troves which will drop once for each player in the party no more than once per day, in the same manner that doing the Random Dungeon daily quest will provide a specific reward the first time it is completed in a day.
Now, reading that last section, about the holiday bosses, got me quite peeved. Some of you may remember my post about Ollyn getting a new horsie back in October. I run the holiday stuff with 4 friends. When mounts drop, we talk and decide who should get it. For the Horseman’s Reins it was decided that I would get it (yay me! ) Actually, we rolled and I won, but normally for stuff like that we decide who gets it. With this new system, unless anything like that is trade-able (which I doubt it will be), we don’t have that option anymore.
Maybe I’m not reading it correctly, but it seems like they’ve just cut down the chance to get rare mounts and what not. Which, will make them more rare and stop the ninja’ing of them, but still. Instead of having four (or five) chances at the cool holiday items per day, I now have one. Thanks blizz. Hope you increase the drop rate to better suit this system.

Swift Retribution 
I suppose it’s a trade-off. Convenience in forming groups not only in your own realm, but also in your own battlegroup, but at the cost of reduced chances. Not to mention that you can warp there automatically!
True. I guess I’m just annoyed by my chances at getting holiday mounts and what not reduced.
But then again not everyone has a balanced group of friends that they can run it with like I do. So I guess I really shouldn’t complain about it too much.
From what I remember when this was first announced after valentine’s day, Blizz said that they wanted the rare mounts to be rare, like the pink rocket thing, which is kind of sad, because I haven’t seen one on my server at all…
It does mean that you have less chances to get the items but I do like the idea of being able to find a group through a lfd-type system – some days it’s hard to find a group to do a holiday boss at all, so that should make it easier.
I’m assuming they will be either removing the achievements from the meta that require items that drop from bosses, or giving them 100% drop rate.
Anyway I think it’s a positive change. You’ll just have to make sure you get in there every day of a holiday to maximise what chance you do have!
